Entry Level Striker Performance

Whether you choose the Striker, Phoenix or Fulcrum kit car you are assured at entry level of a very exciting drive. Not only is the handling of Raw cars second to none, but the light weight construction makes them capable of accelerating very quickly, for example:

Raw Striker track day carBase kits and cars are generally fitted with 150BHP engines.

This produces a power to weight ratio of around 250+ BHP Per Ton.

With a 0 – 60 MPH time of around 4.5 Seconds

Upgrade Packs Can Be Applied to enhance striker performance…

Engine options are available in increments to suit budget and needs.
While the base kit car develops around 150BHP, the engines can be upgraded to:

Striker by Raw Engineering, for road, track and race

170 – 200BHP can be achieved using a multi throttle body inlet setup giving instant engine response and an increased power band.

220BHP can be achieved with a supercharger unit. This gives a very smooth power delivery and high torque output.

Up to 330 BHP can be achieved with factory engines, which makes for 550 BHP per Ton. We like to think this is enough for anyone and in the right hands will keep up with almost anything on the road and track.

The streamlined shape of the Phoenix was originally designed as the Striker Mk. 4, with aerodynamics in mind for racing. The car has over the years accumulated a good number of race wins and indeed championship wins which are a testament to the cars abilities.

Engines

Raw Kit Car Engines Use OMEX Engine ManagementRaw currently offer Zetec engines as standard in kit cars;

We also have extensive knowledge of Toyota 4AGE engines, which we can help source and offer supercharger packs for. We also cater for popular bike engine installations.

Call us to chat about which is right for your kit car. (we can supply engines as a standalone unit to fit as you wish).

Ford Zetec

raw offer OMEX controlled Ford Zetec Engines

Raw’s Zetec range of engines and upgrades produced in conjunction with OMEX have been developed to be solutions that are truly ‘turn-key’.
The engines are all hot run on a test rig, the cams run-in, throttle bodies balanced and emissions pre-set where applicable.
The Zetec is available with various upgrades, all of which can be added to a basic engine later if desired. depending on your budget / requirements you can choose from the following power outputs;
  • 140 BHP
  • 170 BHP
  • 180BHP
  • 200BHP
  • 220BHP (dubbed “Weapons Grade” by CKC)

Toyota 4AGE

Toyota 4AGE Engine with Supercharger

Raw can no longer offer the TOYOTA 1600cc 4AGE 16v and 20v engines from Japan. Simply because we can’t get the price down enough to compete with major importers currently. However it is still available in the Uk, (ask for details)
The Toyota 4AGE engine is the legacy of the MK1 Toyota MR2 and Corolla GTI, but in the reduced weight setup of the Fulcrum & Striker feel like a very different engine giving very quick pickup. If that’s not enough, we have also developed a supercharged 4AGE engine package which is available from stock.

Bike Engines

Bike engined kit cars

Bike engine power is fast, exciting and light weight. This all adds up to a nimble kit car with great handling and performance.

Bike engined kit cars have been popular in hillclimb single seaters, some dedicated circuit race formuale such as Radicals and Formula 600.

At Raw we have used a number of bike engines for customers kit cars, the Yamaha R1 proving popular and reliable.

Raw Phoenix Kit Car

Phoenix Undergoes Wind Tunnel Tests at MIRA

Raw as you may be aware recently added the Phoenix to their range of cars to compliment the striker and fulcrum have recently made a visit to MIRA where the Phoenix underwent wind tunnel testing.

Phoenix - Raw's new car undergoes wind tunnel tests
Car seen with “makeshift” front spoiler in testing at MIRA

The aim of the exercise was to establish the Phoenix’s drag factor and look for any areas in which drag could be lessened and down force improved in order to achieve best possible gains in the cars handling and grip as well as top end speed. A standard shell was used on the road going chassis in order that the results would benefit not only the race cars, but road going vehicles too.

For an open topped car the testing revealed the Phoenix has a fairly good drag coefficient of  0.523. Once this was established the MIRA team went on testing and highlighted areas where improvements could be made to down force and cooling efficiency. As a result we have altered the rake angle of the shell forward a couple of degrees and will be developing a small air dam for the front of the car, which will be offered as an option in the near future. Testing showed this improves front end grip at speeds over approximately 50MPH . The cooling system was scrutinised and additional venting will be added to the car in order to achieve the optimum airflow through the radiator and engine bay. The new venting is located to interfere with passage of air over car as little as possible in order to maintain the smooth flow of air and low drag.

Additional under skinning can also be applied as on race versions of the car in order to maximise down force and minimise drag – but we all already knew that!

Raw Fulcrum - Striker based Kit Car

Fulcrum Wind Tunnel Testing

Raw has secured some testing time in the wind tunnel at MIRA with a professional aerodynamicist. We have already had a 2 hour session with the Fulcrum and now we are going to examine the results, take account of the advice received and make some modifications and book in a further 2 hour session. Many people talk about the aerodynamic nature of their car but this experience has taught us is that three dimensional fluid dynamics is a complex subject and with it lies many mysteries. Also down force front and rear and drag often fight against each other. We also found that making small and possibly obscure changes can change the balance of the car in an unbelievable manner. We feel that this work will not only give us solid data to work from but also enable us to refine further what is already a trophy winning combination.
